While still in safe mode I turned on the automatic updates and rebooted into normal mode. solved Win7 Pro x64. I used Dial-a-Fix and it worked as well. I'm not sure that reinstalling Windows XP would fix this as I think I tried this once before and all the choices remained greyed out.
I'd like to turn on Automatic Updates on my Windows XP installation but the check boxes are all greyed out and there seems to be no way to do this. Let me know if that worked. I copied all of the files, with the exception of one that would not allow me to move it or delete it, and once I rebooted the PC, I went to Windows Updates Could not rename the folder but just went to CP and disabled automatic updates then re-enabled them.
Ugh... Windows Xp Updates Appreciate it ! It takes less than a minute and is completely free! I'm wandering if there is a registry entry or some file I could modify to give me back the choices.

Background Intelligent services was set to manual but after setting it to Automatic and rebooting it did no good and I still can't get Automatic Updates. You need to talk to your Network Administrator or login as Admin to turn them on. No key works, can't even turn it off. Members can monitor the statuses of their requests from their account pages. New software installation was a nightmare. Only thing is the first dowload link didn't work and dowloaded from the second link.
